The Party

A child in a field, a spark in her eye
Hands clasped in wonder, lips breathe a sigh
Dressed for a party, she awaits her guests
A mothering sparrow and chicks in a nest
The twittering family may not sit and dine
Except perhaps in the young hostess’ mind
Yet they are together, friend and fair

Under the Father’s tender care.
